At Wildflower Floral Studio, we’ve always seen flowers as more than just décor.
They are quiet, beautiful reminders of how precious each moment truly is. A flower blooms briefly, reaching its true beauty before gently fading. And in that short life, it reminds us to pause, take in the beauty around us, and hold close to the people and moments that matter most. Weddings are much the same - a single, extraordinary day filled with love, joy, and memories that go by in a blink. That’s why we believe the way your florist works with flowers should be as meaningful as the day itself.
Green floristry is about honouring the beauty and the planet - designed with heart, intention, and sustainability in mind.
Eco-florists, do their best to source flowers locally, supporting growers within their region whenever possible. This not only helps strengthen our local economy but also drastically reduces the environmental cost of mass flower imports - a process that often involves long-haul flights, refrigeration, and excess packaging.
While most florists can’t always avoid imports completely, especially for certain blooms or custom requests, we remain committed to choosing the most earth-conscious options available and are always working toward doing better.
Eco-Friendly Materials
At Wildflower, we completely avoid the use of floral foam - a substance once seen as essential in floral design, but now widely recognized as one of the most harmful. Floral foam is made from plastic resin and contains formaldehyde, though it looks green and natural, it is the exact opposite. It breaks down into microplastics that leach into soil and water systems and never fully degrade. It's toxic, non-compostable, and entirely avoidable. Instead, we design using sustainable alternatives like reusable chicken wire, biodegradable eco-tape, and even natural moss or free resources like newspapers to provide structure and hydration. These materials are gentle on the planet and still allow us to create lush, abundant floral designs. The worldwide market for eco-friendly alternatives is growing strong as awareness and trends spread around the globe.
Our own floristry also steers clear of single-use plastics like cellophane, which is not only non-recyclable but also suffocates delicate flowers during transport. Instead, we wrap our arrangements in beautiful, breathable kraft paper, secured with natural ties. Composting your green waste, and using natural floral foods to avoid synthetic preservatives is another way florists are working to a better industry. What others might consider offcuts or floral waste, we turn into dried petals for confetti, pressed floral art, or functional accents for our gifting products. Every stem is used with care, and every choice is made with longevity in mind.
We’re the first to admit - we’re not perfect. Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. We believe that your wedding flowers shouldn’t last longer in a landfill than they did in your hands - and that honouring your love story should never come at the expense of the planet where it unfolds.
Eco-conscious floristry isn’t about being perfect. It’s about making better choices, step by step. And when you choose a florist who designs with care for the planet, you’re adding another layer of meaning to your day. So let your flowers reflect more than your aesthetic. Ask your florist for sustainable alternatives when it comes to structure, flower selection and aftercare. Let your blooms reflect your values, and the gentle reminder that the most beautiful things in life are often the most fleeting.
